What was reported
A plain summary of this topic, built from the channels that covered it.
Coverage of the Notting Hill Carnival on 31 August 2026 focused on its 60th anniversary and the ongoing celebrations in West London. BBC News reported that around 2 million people were expected across the long weekend, with yesterday being Children's Day and today being Adults' Day. Sky News reported that the main parade was taking place that day, and that police had described the event as overwhelmingly positive and celebratory despite making 169 arrests. Sky News also detailed security and crowd management measures, including a festival control centre with CCTV and behavioural specialists, around 3,000 extra stewards, and the Metropolitan Police's use of facial recognition technology for the second time. Both channels noted the carnival's Caribbean heritage and its growth from a smaller event in the 1960s. Sky News reported a reduction in violent crime compared with the previous year, though the arrest rate was up, and quoted an organiser saying there had been no reports of violent crime that day.
