Reform UK received a record-breaking £72 million in donations over 24 hours from two crypto billionaires, Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne, prompting anti-corruption campaigners to call for caps on political donations. The party welcomed the funds as a display of confidence while facing an ongoing Metropolitan Police criminal investigation into allegations it broke foreign funding laws.
Donald Trump, visiting Ireland to watch golf, said he would love to see a united Ireland and that it may as well happen now, drawing responses from Irish ministers and unionist politicians. Elsewhere, Houthi advances in Yemen displaced tens of thousands, and drone attacks from Iraq closed Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline, while Russia launched more than 400 drones across western Ukraine hitting civilian targets.
The head of AI firm Anthropic called for a global slowdown in AI development, and Portsmouth saw rival protesters face off. Author Jacqueline Wilson also discussed concerns that smartphones are endangering reading. Sport and weather were not covered in this summary.
