Broadcast overview

The UK's inflation rate rose from 2.9% to 3.1%, with rising airfares and fuel prices contributing, including a 9.1% per litre increase in petrol between July and August. Chancellor John Healey blamed the war in the Middle East but said the UK economy is proving resilient.
In international news, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen endorsed proposals for Canada to become the EU's first associate member, as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's relationship with the US grows tenser over trade. Separately, hundreds of volunteers and police continued searching for a three-year-old boy named Noah who went missing from a playground in Brantham, Suffolk. In Los Angeles, three people died after a news helicopter crashed while covering a bus collision, including the pilot, a journalist, and a person on the ground.
