The jury in the trial of former TV presenter Russell Brand on charges including rape and sexual assault has been told that he was a ruthless, calculated and manipulative sexual predator. Prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones told the court that six women had come forward independently with allegations of offences between 1999 and 2009 in a variety of locations. Mr Brand has denied the charges and the case continues.
Russia has again targeted energy infrastructure in overnight attacks on Ukraine, leaving 600,000 people without power, according to President Zelensky. Ukraine also says that an unexpected reduction in service from Elon Musk's Starlink satellite system has disrupted Ukraine's ability to conduct combat drone missions. Mr Zelensky is due to meet Andy Burnham for talks in London later today.
The family of a man killed by a tiger at a wildlife park near Doncaster have urged people to stop sharing video of the attack, saying the circulation of deeply offensive media content is causing them severe distress. Overnight, Donald Trump posted footage of the attack on his Truth Social platform. The man who died, William Chapman, suffered from significant mental illness, according to the family. The government is asking people in their thirties and forties to consider fostering a child as part of a campaign to increase the number of foster places in England by 10,000. Around 56,000 children are in foster care at any time, but a third of carers are now over 60. Last year, the number of available foster places went down 12%.
