The UK's largest carmaker, Land Rover, announced plans for up to 4,000 redundancies as part of a £1.7bn cost-saving programme over two years, with voluntary redundancy offered to salaried staff and managers. Two US envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, visited Kiev after meeting Vladimir Putin in Moscow, and it was reported that Putin and President Zelensky agreed to halt strikes on each other's capitals for three days. Gianni Infantino is set to stand for re-election as FIFA president in March, following criticism of a scrapped plan to sell stakes in FIFA competitions to private investment firms, which had prompted UEFA to threaten a boycott.
Train services resumed between London Paddington and Reading after a grass fire near the tracks in North Kensington disrupted electricity supply and blocked lines to Heathrow. In Indonesia, more than 170,000 passengers faced cancellations as six airports shut due to ash from the Anak Kratau volcano drifting toward Jakarta, affecting nearly 500 flights. Finally, thousands lined the streets of Glasgow to support Sir Chris Hoy and fellow cyclists on the Tour de Fall, a charity ride raising money for cancer charities, which the six-time Olympic gold medallist set up after his stage four cancer diagnosis.
