5 News Weekend reported that a man died after being attacked by a tiger at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster. The park said the man entered the tiger enclosure that afternoon and the tiger subsequently attacked him, that it was working closely with authorities to establish what happened, and that it would remain closed for the weekend. The government spoke out against Donald Trump's surprise oil deal with Russia, under which the US will import hundreds of thousands of tonnes of oil in the coming months, as diesel prices in the US surged by almost 70 per cent this year. Downing Street said its position could not be clearer and promised to maintain pressure on Russia through tough sanctions, while President Trump thanked President Putin.
The bulletin also reported that the parents of two Australian brothers spoke of their heartbreak after three men were found guilty of murdering them and their American friend during a surfing trip to Mexico. Callum and Jake Robinson and Jack Carter Rhoad were shot in a botched robbery in a secluded beach area in 2024, and their bodies were later found in a well. Several people were arrested at a huge march in central London over Israel's ongoing war in Gaza, including a man and a woman with placards declaring support for the proscribed organisation Palestine Action. The report said today marked one year since the so-called ceasefire in Gaza, during which Israel had killed more than 1,400 civilians in a region that continued to be out of bounds to international journalists.
In a final item, Queen Camilla shared what sparked her passion for reading in a new documentary, saying she read Lady Chatterley's Lover, the once banned novel by D.H. Lawrence, as a teenager, and that she and the King enjoy sitting and reading quietly together before dinner.
