European football's governing body UEFA said it has lost confidence in FIFA president Gianni Infantino after he scrapped a plan to sell a stake in the World Cup and other tournaments to private investors. UEFA described the proposal as a shabby backroom deal and welcomed its withdrawal. The Football Association called for a full review of FIFA's leadership, and an extraordinary congress could be triggered if 43 member associations request it. Separately, at least 67 people died when 60,000 migrants crossed from Morocco into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. Spain's interior minister called the surge an attack on territorial integrity and criticised fellow EU countries after Italy suspended free movement with Spain.

Tributes were paid to renowned mountaineer and former British soldier Nimal Purja, who was killed in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan.
