The bulletin led with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky condemning Donald Trump's announced deal to import Russian diesel into the US, calling it a gift to President Putin and an investment in Russia's war. Trump said Russia would release 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately, with more to follow, as US diesel and petrol prices have risen sharply during the US war against Iran and ahead of next month's midterm elections. Reports from Ukraine said Russian attacks had killed at least 15 people, including three children, and a business correspondent said the diesel deal was unlikely to move fuel prices much because the initial release was small compared with daily US use.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park said a man was seriously injured after entering a tiger enclosure and being attacked; police and paramedics attended and the park near Doncaster was to remain closed the next day. Officials in Tennessee confirmed death row inmate Christa Pike had been discharged from hospital after surviving two attempts to execute her last week and had returned to the rehabilitation centre where she was held, with the governor ordering an investigation and her legal team seeking a life sentence without parole. In Delhi, hundreds of young protesters were detained as authorities tried to prevent a major protest by the Cockroach Janta Party, which wants electoral reforms and the resignation of the chief election commissioner over claims of voter-list manipulation; its founder and other leaders were detained.
Hurricane Azaias weakened to a cyclone after making landfall in northwest Florida, bringing heavy rain and strong winds, with coastal evacuations and more than 300,000 people in Florida and 200,000 in Alabama without power last night. A High Court judge in Belfast adjourned an appeal from the Orange Order in Portadown until Monday after the Northern Ireland secretary banned the Drumcree parade on police advice that the Unionist march could not go through a mainly nationalist area without risking serious injury or disorder. Later, an amateur football club in Gloucester was reported to have won £1 million on the national lottery, with its president said to have entered the same numbers every week for three decades.
