ITV Evening News led with Reform UK after an undercover ITV investigation found councillors and candidates using racist and misogynistic language. Treasury spokesman Robert Jenrick defended the party's vetting procedures, said all parties have bad apples and rejected fellow Reform MP Sarah Pochin's claim that the party is chauvinistic; councillor Alan Feeney resigned and apologised, and the party said investigations had begun and some suspensions had been made. The programme then reported that Joshua Foster, a British father from Essex, had been spared jail in Cyprus and fined 3,000 euros after admitting causing the death of his two-year-old son, who fell 40 feet from a hotel window. It also reported that Hampshire's police and crime commissioner opposed the early release of Kiran Kaur, mother of Vikram Digwa, who murdered Henry Nowak, and that legal documents showed police feared Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor could block searches at Windsor and Sandringham before warrants were ruled unlawful; he denies wrongdoing.
Russell Brand's trial at Southwark Crown Court heard a second alleged victim say he became a wild-eyed maniac as he allegedly tried to drag her into a men's toilet at MTV in 2001; he denies rape, sexual assault and indecent assault charges. The prime minister, Andy Burnham, gave his first speech in Scotland in Motherwell, offering the SNP more devolved power, while Scottish First Minister John Swinney pledged to work with him and Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch argued there was too much talk and not enough action on devolution. The broadcast also reported an investigation by Yorkshire Ambulance Trust into possible patient-record breaches after William Chapman was killed by a tiger at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, the jailing of lorry driver Daniel Barlow for causing Chloe Williams's death while using a gambling site on the M6, and the nine-year sentence for former Brookside actor Philip Foster over a £13.6 million modelling fraud.
ITV News then aired a special report from Izium in eastern Ukraine, about 20 miles from the frontline, describing recent Russian strikes on homes and infrastructure, drone and air-raid alerts, basement schooling, and 400 unidentified bodies from mass graves, with fears Russia could try to retake the city. The programme reported that Norwegian teenager Johannes Natland had been jailed for 20 years for plotting a murder in Britain for an Iran-supported crime gang, and that Labour MPs led by Alex Ballinger were calling for a new gambling tax on high-stakes slot machines, which the industry warned could close betting shops, casinos and bingo halls and cost jobs. It also reported that Pope Leo had celebrated mass from hospital after lung surgery, and that the government faced criticism over its response to drought affecting 80% of England, with farmers struggling and a report on water-saving methods used in southern Spain.
