A club representative said: 'A lot of the young people, obviously being based with the Robins Foundation, do have that interest in football and Bristol City, so we try and use that as much as possible to engage them, get them out of that classroom environment and use that to help and aid their development.'
One young participant described the benefits: 'It lets out my stress, it lets out my energy. It just helps me in general. Playing football gets rid of everything, everything on your mind. You can just relax and have fun.'
The 224 Youth Zone, which opened this year, offers a range of activities including sport, music and art. A representative said: 'We have a range of different activities all throughout every evening here and young people might have an interest in sport, they might have an interest in music and art and they can come here and really express themselves and with that we can then help support them in further life.'
The new manager highlighted the transferable skills from sport to life: 'The things you need in sport, resilience, mentality, working hard, teamwork, you need in life. And I think for those youngsters that can come here, have so many different experiences around what's in this building, and the charity this supports is excellent and when you can get youngsters in that place and hopefully into situations where they can go out into the working world and do well or enjoy their sport in later life, I think it just helps the community.'
