The Full Story

A plain summary built from the channels that reported this story.

A new David Bowie exhibition is celebrating the singer's life and work by putting his own voice and archive material at its centre.

Called David Bowie, You're Not Alone, the show is described as a rich multimedia archive and a 360-degree experience. It reveals the many faces of Bowie in sound and vision, and draws on interviews, photographs, sketches and live performances to mirror his multiple personas.

The creators were given extraordinary access to the Bowie archive. The exhibition is currently at the Light Room in London and arrives in Brighton in July. Its Brighton return follows the lifting of a ban imposed on Bowie after an overexuberant crowd ripped up seating at Brighton Dome in 1973.

Alan Edwards, Bowie's publicist for nearly 40 years and the exhibition's consultant producer, said Bowie would have loved that musical friends had attended, including David Gilmour, Noel Gallagher, Goldie and Neil Tennant. He said he felt Bowie's presence on some days and that the friends were moved by the show rather than simply ticking a box.

Fans at the exhibition described it as fabulous and astonishing. One lifelong fan said seeing it was emotional and that it was nice to hear Bowie's voice. Another praised the images Bowie created and said he and Madonna kept changing their images.

The coverage noted that more than 10 years after Bowie's death, his legacy remains strong. The exhibition uses his voice and archive to celebrate his career and the many characters he created.
