Donny Osmond announces UK arena tour and reflects on career

Donny Osmond has announced a UK arena tour, taking his Las Vegas show to British audiences. He announced the tour in a studio interview and said the UK show will run for about two hours and will be built around energy.

Osmond said the show takes his Las Vegas production to a different level. On stage, he said, a professional performer takes over. Off stage he is a dad, a husband and a grandpa. He said he can be dead tired, but the curtain, the spotlights and the audience lift him.

The interview traced a career that began when he was five, performing with his band of brothers. That led to 1970s pop hysteria, before a new generation discovered him through Disney's Mulan. He recalled his first live performance in Chicago, where cheers and flash bulbs scared him and he ran off stage. Andy Williams called him back to take a bow, and Osmond said he decided then to perform for the rest of his life.

He also remembered Dolly Parton's visit to his talk show. She sang with him and his sister, said goodbye to the audience, then came back to say goodbye to the band and spoke to every member. He described her as sweet, genuine and the real deal. He told a story about Elvis Presley calling his home, and his brother Alan shouting that a man named Elvis was on the phone.

Osmond discussed Puppy Love, saying the camera was too high in one of the few clips of him singing it. He was about 13 or 14 at the time. He said the song worked because it was the right song at the right time.
