The Full Story

A plain summary built from the channels that reported this story.

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a three-month-old baby girl who was camping with her family in woodland near Great Wyrley, Staffordshire.

Police were called to the area on Saturday morning by paramedics responding to a report of the baby in cardiac arrest. An air ambulance was also sent, but despite advanced life support, the infant was pronounced dead a short time later.

The family had been camping in woods near the village, an unofficial spot popular with fishermen, dog walkers and runners. At the scene, officers arrested four people: a 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman from South Staffordshire, a 20-year-old woman from Wolverhampton and an 18-year-old man from Walsall. All have since been released on bail with conditions while the investigation continues.

Staffordshire Police said they were 'working around the clock' to investigate the circumstances and were 'keeping an open mind' as to what happened. They urged the public not to speculate online.

At the site, the remains of the campsite were visible, including discarded cutlery, a saucepan, tent poles and a burnt-out tent filled with beer cans and food containers. Tributes of flowers and toys had been left, with notes describing the baby as a 'precious baby girl'.

The force has not named the child or given further details about the arrests.
