The Full Story

A plain summary built from the channels that reported this story.

Louis Spence, known for his high-energy dancing and camp style, has moved into a new role as the 'CEO of entertainment' for care homes. In a YouTube series called 'Loose Venting Care', he works alongside care workers and brings in famous friends to perform for residents and staff.

The project grew out of Spence's own family experience. After his mother died, his father moved in with him, and Spence started a regular 'pensioners club' with older relatives. Many of his relatives work in care homes, and they asked him to come and entertain. He agreed, and soon invited well-known names including John Partch, Emma Bunton and West End performers.

The series is now in its second season, after taking the summer off because the care home gets very hot. Spence said the response has been wonderful. He emphasised that the shows are just as much for the care workers as for the residents, and noted that this week is Professional Care Workers Week.

He also spoke about the effect of music and dance on people with dementia. He said that when artists sing songs the residents know, they often remember all the words, and you can see their faces light up. He recalled that some residents were initially unsure, but soon joined in once the laughter started.

Spence described 'Loose Venting Care' as a comedy show with heart, and said all the performers give up their time for nothing. He believes YouTube is the way forward because you can be free and reach a global audience. He ended with a shout out to care workers everywhere, saying they do an incredible job and should be celebrated.
