The Full Story
A plain summary built from the channels that reported this story.
An extradition hearing is under way in South Africa for a British Zimbabwean man accused of murdering his wife and two daughters in Bedfordshire. Nandana Shuma appeared in court on the day of this report, after being arrested in Johannesburg last month.
The bodies of Thabo Zandile Shuma, 42, and her daughters Natalie, 15, and Nala, 5, were found at their home in Great Denham, near Bedford, on 6 July. A post-mortem examination found they died from blunt force trauma. Two days before the bodies were discovered, Shuma was captured on CCTV at Heathrow Airport leaving the UK for Zimbabwe.
He was later arrested in South Africa. The Crown Prosecution Service authorised three murder charges against him. Under the extradition treaty between Britain and South Africa, he must first face any local charges before he can be extradited. UK authorities are expected to push for a speedy process. Before his arrest, UK police had warned him through the media that criminal investigations have no borders.
