Priyanka Chopra Jonas at US premiere of The Cycle of Love

Priyanka Chopra Jonas attended the US premiere of her new film, The Cycle of Love, in New York, where she serves as an executive producer. The documentary tells the true story of PK, a street artist from India's marginalised Dalit community, who cycled around 6,000 miles across countries to reunite with Lotta, a Swedish tourist he had fallen in love with. The couple, now married for 50 years, feature as the central characters, and their children also produced the film.

At the premiere, Chopra Jonas spoke about her long fascination with the story, saying she first heard it around 15 years ago, even before the film's director Orlando von Einsiedel. She noted that the tale was famous in India and that a Hindi film had been planned about it. When the project came to her, she decided to bring it under her production company because of its emotional power and the couple's extraordinary journey. She described being "blown away" by every aspect of the film and praised the performances that transported viewers across five months of travel through multiple countries.

Von Einsiedel, a documentary filmmaker, explained that he was deeply moved when he first met PK and Lotta. He said their warmth and generosity convinced him to devote years of his life to sharing their story. He also revealed that the real-life couple remained closely involved throughout production, even watching every single screening at film festivals, sometimes five or six times. This, he said, felt like evidence that they had "got it right."

The film also touches on caste discrimination. Chopra Jonas, asked whether attitudes are changing quickly enough in India towards Dalits, said that filmmaking gives the ability to have conversations that are required. She hoped that having PK as a central protagonist and telling his real-life hero story would help move the conversation in the right direction.

For Chopra Jonas, the story's theme of resilient love carries a personal resonance, given her own cross-cultural marriage to the American singer Nick Jonas. She said the film stands for how resilient love can be, calling resilience one of the most important qualities when love is true. The premiere in Washington was part of a wider promotional push, with the film now scheduled to be released in multiple territories.
