The Full Story

A plain summary built from the channels that reported this story.

A jury at Bristol Crown Court has heard how a 16 year old boy filmed himself fatally stabbing a schoolboy in Chippenham, in what prosecutors described as a remorseless and ruthless attack. The defendant, who cannot be named because of his age, denies murdering 16 year old Shane Hambaccacherry in January.

The court was shown footage of the attack, which took place on 31 January at around 4pm. The prosecution said Shane had gone to the defendant's house after allegedly being robbed of cannabis and a knife, and had sent messages suggesting they settle the dispute with fists. But by that time, the defendant had already recorded a video of himself holding a knife and saying, "I'm going to be slicing."

The pair agreed to meet in an alleyway. The prosecution said Shane arrived alone and unarmed. The video showed Shane appearing stunned as the defendant approached him with the knife. Shane held up his hands, but the defendant stabbed him in the chest. Shane fled and collapsed on a main road, where passers by tried to help. He was taken to Southmead Hospital and pronounced dead the next day.

The defendant is alleged to have ditched the weapon in a derelict building. His lawyers are expected to argue that he acted in self defence. The trial is listed to last for another two weeks.
