The Full Story

A plain summary built from the channels that reported this story.

President Donald Trump has used an interview with GB News to warn that uncontrolled immigration will destroy Europe, and to launch a fresh attack on the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

Speaking at the White House, Mr Trump said European countries were failing to secure their borders, pointing to recent unrest in Spain over migration in Ceuta. He said the situation in Spain was "an outrage" and that it would "ruin their whole country". He added: "It'll destroy Europe, because once they're in Spain, they're going to pour into your country and every other country."

The President also repeated his claim that his own border policy had been successful, saying: "We haven't had a person come in illegally into our country through the southern border in 17 months now."

Mr Trump turned his attention to London, describing the city as "a much different place" than it was 15 or 20 years ago. He said the mayor, Sadiq Khan, was "a nasty guy, nasty person" and "a very bad mayor". He claimed crime was very high and that there were areas of London and Paris where police were afraid to go, and where Sharia courts operated. He suggested Mr Khan remained in office because of the votes of people coming into the country.

The interview also covered the UK's new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham. Mr Trump said he had a "very good talk" with Mr Burnham and told him the UK had two problems: immigration and energy. On energy, he urged the UK to exploit North Sea oil, calling it "a gold mine" and saying the country could become rich by doing so. He criticised "environmental lunatics" for downplaying the potential of the North Sea.

Mr Trump also discussed the Falkland Islands, saying the UK was "not the same country it was 20 years ago" and that it had not helped him in the past. He praised King Charles as "fantastic" but said that personally he would not have taken Prince Harry back into the royal family.

The full interview is due to air on GB News.
