"I first thought it was just a little bit of vandalism, but when you look at it, it looks too surgical," he explained. "I think somebody has come armed with a saw with the intention of spending a little bit of time and cutting the head off."
Rather than leaving the head behind, the vandals took it away from the scene. A neighbour expressed disbelief: "I just can't believe it because he spent years trying to grow them, you know, and then cut them and everything like that. And somebody's just come along and cut the thing off. Very sad."
Thames Valley Police are investigating and have appealed for anyone with information, dashcam footage, or CCTV to come forward. They hope someone can help them get ahead in the case. The owner is baffled by the motive. "Why anybody would take offence at Peppa Pig and why anybody would feel the need to cut their head off of it, I've just got no idea."
The topiary was a local landmark, with families stopping to take photos over the years. One neighbour recalled, "My son was about five when he had the photograph taken next to him and now he's 12, so he will be sad as well." For now, the mystery of the missing head remains unsolved.
