What was reported
A plain summary of this topic, built from the channels that covered it.
On 7 October 2026, Sky News and ITV1 reported that Joshua Kerry, 28, had appeared in court that day in connection with two accusations: the murder of Ann Widdecombe, described by ITV1 as a former MP and Reform UK spokesperson, and preparing acts of terrorism including against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. ITV1 reported the appearance took place at Westminster Magistrates Court. Both channels reported he was remanded in custody and was due to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday. Sky News specified the Old Bailey appearance was on Friday 9 October. Sky News reported Kerry appeared wearing a grey prison issue tracksuit, behind glass and accompanied by a police officer. ITV1 reported he wore a grey tracksuit and confirmed his name and date of birth. ITV1 said the case related to the alleged fire bombing of Farage's London home in April last year, and that the Metropolitan Police initially closed the case as an attempted burglary before counter terror police reopened it in August this year. Sky News reported prosecutors alleged Kerry researched targets and travelled to Farage's home, where he attempted to gain entry. Sky News also reported that Farage's partner came home on 20 April last year to find the door damaged, the wooden frame hanging off, lighter fuel in the porch, and a mark on the door caused by a 27mm blade. Sky News reported prosecutors said Kerry researched prominent individuals and institutions between May 2024 and July 2026, and that he was charged with Ann Widdecombe's murder on 20 July. ITV1 reported Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the investigation raised serious questions about the security of people in public life and that she was determined to strengthen protections for those who choose to serve. Sky News separately carried a statement from Channel 4 saying Channel 4 News stands by its journalism, that the investigation underwent extensive editorial and external legal scrutiny before broadcast, and that it would not comment further given an ongoing police investigation.
